[FMSGuru.com News Item] Update on progress and content for 2012

http://www.fmsguru.com/news.cfm

Hi everybody, thanks for visiting once again. I thought it would be a good idea to quickly post up what's going on around here as I realize that it has been a while since any new content has made it on to the site.

The main issue at the moment in that area is that it's VERY busy in the consulting and development world. There's a very good reason I put out a call for developers a while back there and both positions have been filled and I'm thinking of opening a third soon. Being that as it is, it's hard to take time out to put some tutorials together as it takes about 3 times as long as the actual tutorial is to create it.

That said, I definitely want to get more tutorials up fast. I've got a whole bunch of ideas and concepts to get out there that can be useful for all sorts of situations and should assist all learners here in their development process. Anyways, I'll post up again soon with some content and further news as to what is happening here. I just wanted to get something up to make sure that everybody knows I'm still here and keen to get on with showing some new stuff. Again, if you have any specific requests, then just hit me up on the forum in the request tutorial section and I'll do my best to accommodate!

Thanks for visiting!

[FMSGuru.com News Item] Closing up 2011 and looking forward to 2012!

http://www.fmsguru.com/news.cfm

Hey Everybody, I thought I would write up a few things to wrap 2011 and get on with 2012 here at FMSGuru.com.

First up, thank you everybody for the visits, compliments, comments and sometimes work that you have brought when coming to check out what we have here. Product sales have improved year after year (so have the products I think) and there are tons of requests for mods and new products altogether. I can tell you that we are working as hard as we can in that area and more. Every little bit and piece that improves this small niche community is really important, so once again, thank you very much.

2011 saw a total of 34 new free video tutorials. That's pretty good at 2.8 per month! Just under one per week essentially.. I plan on improving on that this year for sure. There is so much information to be put out as both Flash Media Server and Wowza Media Server are growing all the time and new techniques get figured out on almost a daily basis.

Just in case you missed the last two tutorials of the year, I managed to get one out on both servers:

Overriding the play() method server side to limit play time with Wowza

Developing server side code on FMS to check if a live stream is available

2011 brought a brand new website too. We're going into the 4th year for FMSGuru.com and it was about time a facelift happened. In conjunction we also released a new product, STi Video Recorder for Wowza Media Server HD Edition v3 , a very cool video recording application that works on Wowza. With those out of the way we can definitely concentrate on more free video tutorials, articles and of course product updates and new products altogether. We have a lot of ideas and a lot of requests coming in on almost a daily basis. We listen to them all so please don't hesitate to ask if we have done or can do something. We probably have done it or are going to!

2012 is going to bring all kinds of new tutorials, articles, product updates and products. I fully expect the community to grow as the demand for this particular technology continues to grow out of control, there has never been a better time to be involved in live media/communication and streaming video. It's amazing.

So stay tuned for some more updates soon!
Thanks

http://www.fmsguru.com/news.cfm

Hey everybody who visits, I'd like to quickly post that we are looking for a couple of developers that can do Wowza, Flex/Flash development or at the very least, really want to. We're very keen to hire locally and if you are located in or around Vancouver B.C. Canada then you are a good candidate and we'd like to chat. Please let me know who you are, what you can do and what you have done at graeme [@] solid-thinking.com and of course a way to get a hold of you.

We're also keen to get somebody who can take on some server duties with an involvement also in Amazon's EC2 system and setting up AMI's with load balancing etc. Again, a fast learner and self driven individual will get bonus points around here because that's what we are too.

[FMSGuru.com News Item] Some new tutorials up on the site

http://www.fmsguru.com/news.cfm

Now that the site has settled in and we've been able to take a breather here on newer stuff, I've got a couple more tutorials to go on top of the other two I posted recently on both Flash Media Server and Wowza Media server. There is definitely a theme going here and I want to be sure that when you come to check out new stuff that I keep it reasonably even between both systems. They both have their strengths and weaknesses but of course both are quite powerful in streaming video and helping you produce live applications with both data and video/audio. Anyways, here they are and stay tuned for even more coming before the year ends.

Installation and the Basics of Flash Media Server 4.5

In this tutorial we talk about the basics and installation of Flash Media Server 4.5 on Windows. The machine the software is installed on already has a previous version of FMS on it so the upgrade path and things to think about are talked about a bit as well. If you have no clue of what FMS4.5 is then this will help and if you have any doubts on how easy or hard it is to install then watch this tutorial and see how easy it is. There are a few items to think about if you are upgrading, but it's straightforward for the most part.

How to get FMS and WMS to run at the same time on one machine

In this tutorial we cover the details on how to get both Flash Media Server and Wowza Media Server to run at the same time on one machine. This can be very handy for development machines when you don't want to run two computers to test between both services. While it's best to use two different IP numbers to accomplish this task, it's quite possible to just set the ports differently which causes one or the other to run on a different port than the other.

Thanks for visiting!

http://www.fmsguru.com/news.cfm

We've got a brand new site here to look over finally! Around a week late due to circumstances almost under our control, but we're up and running now with lots more to come. The new site has a far more robust search engine in the background, better results to find what you are looking for and a much friendlier user interface that should show well on both desktop and mobile. Even the player has received a few updates with more to come and accomodations made even better for iOS devices (the only one without Flash to take advantage of our cool player).

With that, we've also got a brand new product launch at the same time, STi Video Recorder for Wowza Media Server HD Edition v3. This is our latest version of our Video/Audio recording application that runs right in the browser through the Flash Player. You have the option to choose to record between three different sizes, review your recording and even save it if you want in a list to view later. It's like a mini video content management system of all your recorded videos. Once recorded the application provides a simple way to link to the page where the bonus video player (included in the package if you want to use it) where the video can be played back. There is also an option to embed the player in a web page or blog.

We have promo pricing going on until the end of the year and after that will see a price raise to properly reflect the cost of this very cool application. So don't delay! Pick it up now as all updates are free until v4.

I've finally managed to get the whole series online in preparation of our impending site renewal. We've also got a brand new product release at the same time and it's all hinging on how fast we can get it all in place and exceeding expectations all around. To give a hint, our new product runs on Wowza Media Server and incorporates recording video and audio. It's quite cool and I expect it will be quite popular. We've got a whole list of items we still want to add to this version and of course, as usual, all updates for a particular version are free. I'll post more updates very soon.

Anyways, here are those tutorials links just in case you haven't seen them on the tutorials page yet:

Another quick update on where the site renewal is at. The new version is just about ready and we're just perfecting a few last minute items to make sure that the site is not only more useful but more friendly to more devices. Once again I want to point out that we're releasing one of our products online in our free streaming tutorials library and have moved forward by posting the second set of 4 to 6 of 13 tutorials on developing in Flash. Back to the Basics with Flash is a product we released a while ago and I thought that it might be a nice gesture to release it into our free tutorials list. There are another 7 to go and I'll get on with releasing those this week along with new material on both Flash Media Server and Wowza Media server. Stay tuned! It's going to get interesting.

http://www.fmsguru.com/news.cfm

I was originally hoping to have the redesign and development done by today but as it turns out we're about a week behind. Keep in mind that the whole site has been completely redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up. It's more usable, functional and looks awesome, here's another quick screenshot teaser to prove it:

Anyways, it's coming along really well, there are still a few things to work out and I'm also waiting on some design for a brand new product too. More on that soon!
[FMSGuru.com News Item] Wowza Media Server 3 Released Today

We've got a lot of updates coming and going on at the same time here but I wanted to take a quick moment to note that Wowza Media Server 3 has just been released and can be downloaded from Wowza's site.

With this release comes a huge amount of updates and performance gains. The addons alone are well worth the upgrade with each one having a license required to add on to the original software. There is also a trial version for 30 days that allows you to use the software with everything and a developer version that is free to use for 180 days.

With all that I have to say that we've got a huge update coming to FMSGuru soon. I've been working hard on the backend and making the site work better and faster. Searches should be more precise and even this news piece has been put in place with the new system. All built in Flex which means I've got lots of tutorials material to show. We also have Adobe's FMS 4.5 just out and now Wowza 3, exciting stuff and as soon as the facelift happens here you're going to see so much new material that you won't know what to do with it!

Stay Tuned!
There are both more tutorials and articles on the way. On the functionality side, we have improved the ability to find tutorials that you might want to check out based on what you are watching at the time. On each tutorial page we have now listed some related tutorials that may answer your questions on your current topic. If you scroll down past the video then you'll see the list.

We have many more updates to the site coming including a complete redesign which I know I'm very excited about. So stay tuned!

With that I'm proud to announce a mutually advantageous partnership with Wowza Media Systems to assist in getting some of their teaching materials updated in a new format. More on that soon!

For now though, please stay tuned, I do plan to put up a few shorter tutorials working with Flash Builder/Flex and Wowza. I put up a quick poll on whether or not anybody cared if we did more Wowza or FMS stuff here but no responses just yet. Check that out here if you're interested in letting me know. It does help me decide on content to put up, otherwise I just put up things that I feel like doing :)

As promised by my last update a week ago, we have a new tutorial up: Working with Shared Objects with Wowza and Flex

Also with that, we have a new product just launched: STi Chat for Wowza Media Server with Flex | Foundation Edition v4.

We've improved on our last version greatly by building it in Flex for one and also changing up and improving other features. Make sure to check that out!

More to follow this week, the pace should be picking back up again so stay tuned!

Thanks for visiting!
